What can we believe? We’ve been told things our entire lives and it’s up to us to believe them or not. In this case, everyone was lied to by an actor named Steve Rannazzisi. On September 16, 2015, Buffalo Wild Wings stopped airing TV commercials including comedian Steve Rannazzisi, as he confessed this week that he lied about being in the World Trade Center during the September 11th attacks. He’s been dishonest with the public, appearing in ads since 2009, talking about having worked for Merrill Lynch on the 54th floor of one of the World Trade Center towers and having escaped the 9/11 attacks. He had initially described the “pandemonium” he witnessed when he ran for safety out onto the street. He originally said he bolted out of the building just minutes prior to another plane slamming into it, then abandoned his New York desk job to pursue a career as an entertainer in Los Angeles. Later, Rannazzisi announced that six of the 10 members on a basketball team he played on died. Now, it turns out the entire story was made up. This week, he proclaimed on Twitter he was in fact occupied in Midtown, and not at the World Trade Center. “I don’t know why I said this. This was inexcusable,” he wrote.

Crocs were just as shocked as the rest of the world, as summarized by Senior Melanie Tessier, “I don’t know how he was capable of doing this… since 2009? That’s crazy. To feel that we’ve been lied to for so many years. Who knows, he’s probably not the first that did this.” Fellow Croc Brianna Phillips added, “September 11th is a very powerful subject for me, and for many families and I can’t believe that he had the audacity to lie about it for years, on national television. People lost their parents, best friends, siblings and many more and he is just going to lie like this? Like if this was a game? It’s not a game and it was no joke. It’s absolutely devastating that he did this and he deserves the consequence that he is getting.” It may seem like New York news, but this transgression hurt even in the Wetlands of PPMH.
